Sex & the city of Wroclaw
I am not Carrie Bradshaw and not even try to be like her, but sometimes you just find part of your life illustrated in some movie or tv serial. Can be my case.
It is well knwn for everybody that the Erasmus program makes lots of students meet for months in the same city, living together, sharing , enjoying… but my question is: also loving?
Is not my intention to talk in general, cause that kind of action can produce some misunderstood, so, yes, I will do it deeper: why did I come to Wroclaw? To fall in love.
Short answer, clear, direct, but this is the conclusion I got after nine months and if I was asked when I arrived, probably the answer would have been completely different: to study, to have fun, I do not really know.
I arrived to Poland in September, full of energy, excited about this experience and also conscious that this was going to finish in July. When you plan something, your mind can think really quickly, strategies to be nice with people, strategies to have lot of fun, strategies not to get too involved with someone… But, dear all, this is a nice theory that honestly, does not work.
Wroclaw is also called Wroclove, this city changed my mind at all. When you become Erasmus you do not want to think about love, about compromise, too much work or too many responsibilities, but what if it appears? I mean, love. Do not try to skip it, it just happens. And then all the theory, all the things you have thought just disappear and day after day you get more and more involved.
Then, there are two options, you fell in love with another Erasmus, he will be going home like you, he has the same way of life, you both know what is going on.
On the other hand, you can find a native boy, and then what? Then, you really discover in which country you are, you start noticing the differences between your culture and the one that is around you. Meeting his friends, getting in touch with his habits, (time of lunch, dinner, kind of food, ways of reaction, language…).
That is how I discovered the real Poland, and yes, it is beautiful to find someone who takes care of you abroad, who shows you the country, who introduces you to a new world, but remember: all good things come to an end, and my Erasmus is nearly over, is it time to suffer? Probably, but, that’s love and this is Wroclove… should imagine this could happen.
The most important thing I have learnt in this long time is that you should enjoy as much as you can and be prepared for everything, no matter how involved you get cause it would be worst to be regretting things in the future. Keep the good moments and remember forever how happy you were or someone made you.
You never know what Erasmus can offer you.
Nobody said that life would be perfect but at least you can have perfect moments and yes, I am in love.
