He was waiting for half century to get Polish citizenship
I was waiting for half century on Polish citizenship but I got it, said Joannis Hrissidis, a Greek living in Lodz for years.
When Joannis Hrissidis began his struggle for Polish passport, first he had to get his paper together. He had to, inter alia, change his wife's surrname to the proper one, so it was necessary to deliver her birth cerificate and other papers from Greece. It lasted... almost 15 years. The reason? Polish courts and offices asked for more and more new documents. Greek declarations, with birth certificate as well, are valid only for 6 months and when Polish authorities were asking for more documents, those already given, lost its validity.
Joannis Hrissidis said that Polish law has something like abridged procedure of naturalization. It is available for the spouses of Polish citizens, under condition that their probation period is longer than three years. "I did not succeed because we have been married with Bozena for 36 years", said Joannis laughing.
