Rare in our climatic zone case of filariasis, tropical parasitic disease, detected and confirmed by the doctors appeared in patient from hospital in Lodz. The man got infected with the filariasis probably during his trip to Africa.

As Doctor Zbigniew Deroń says, it is first time in his life that he needed to deal with filariasis. The patient feels well right now. His health is no longer threatened.

Lymphatic Filariasis often appear without any symptoms, complications can appear, however, in the form of lymph glarid swelling or limbs and face elephantiasis. It appears in tropical zone. It is transmitted, inter alia, by mosquitos.

As Doctor Deroń added, you cannot be infected with filariasis from another human being, so there is no danger to others.
