Cow escaped death from abattoir

A cow escaped from abattoir to which farmer brought it to slaughter. On Thursday a farmer from Sejny brought two-year old cow to a slaughterhouse in Poddubówka. The next day he was to pick up the meat. He did not received it, because Borutka – this is the name of a cow - escaped through the crack in the slaughterhouse’s gate.

She run as far as Suwalki. It was only there where the pursuit caught her on the playground. Even then the animal did not surrendered immediately. Although the veterinarian, who was called to the place, was shooting to the cow with soporific injections, cow has still enough strength to flee to neighboring building. Only there additional doses of the drug stupefy it so that it can be loaded into the car. And she went back to the slaughterhouse.

The cow could not be killed, because it still has drug in it’s blood and flesh would not be eatable. It has to go through 48-hours quarantine. Now it's weekend and the slaughterhouse is closed.

After this breakout, organizations defending animals find out about a cow. Two of them - Viva and the Committee for Animal Aid from Tychy bought Borutka from a farmer for 2 thousand polish zloty (around 625 euro) and call for Borutka to the slaughterhouse to collect their property.

But the owner of the slaughterhouse did not want to give them a cow, because according to the opinion of the veterinarian he is not allowed to do this, his excuse was the European rules. He declared that the EU directive prohibits that any animal taken to a slaughterhouse, can be freed alive.
