Growing inflation in Poland
Inflation in Poland is worrisomely high. Economists warn that if nothing is done, with such rapid growth in wages, as early as next year it may jump up to 8 percent.
Prices of food and energy went up the most. According to the Central Statistical Office (GUS - Główny Urząd Statystyczny) in the last 12 months, food prices went up on average over 7 percent. And energy as much as 10 percent. All prices rose on average by 4.6 percent.
They claim that it cannot be evade without the rise in interest rates and changes in the job market, which can reduce the pace o wages f growth.
The situation in Poland is not worse than in other countries. Prices are going up everywhere, because prices of oil and food also went up. Especially as China, which for years have hampered the global increase in prices, is now struggling with high inflation. Yet in January 2007, inflation in this country amounted to only 2.2 percent. In May 2008, it was already 7.7 percent.
