Preservation of the original wooden construction, supporting the inhabitants’ respect for their own culture, as well as the development of tourism – these are the main assumptions of creating cultural route "Tree and Sacrum", which is to be created in Podlaskie region.

In the region of Podlaskie many monuments of wooden rural architecture is preserved: Orthodox churches, Catholic churches, windmills, railway stations. This is the only region in Poland, where one can still meet consistent and interesting decorated wooden country buildings.

Not only wooden buildings of everyday use will be marked on the route - cottages, interesting farms from nineteenth-century, windmills, workshops - and religious - churches, chapels, wayside crosses - but also monuments of nature and archaeological finds.

The main idea of the route is, however, next to the idea of taking care of wooden construction, protecting and promoting the cultural richness of the region: dying professions, local dialects of religious and national minorities, habits. Therefore, the marshal office in subsequent years will be subsidizing a cultural and folk events and documentary projects which are to take place on the route.
