There has been discovered a village from about thousand years

A village from about thousand years was discovered by archeologists running an archeological excavation in Zyrakowo a few days ago. One of the most interesting artifacts is an iron Slavic spur from between VIIIth-IXth centuries. Since several days the excavations have been run to the east from the church in Zyrakowo.

"After removing the arable layer of humus 30-40 centimeter underground, we discovered a village from about thousand years", said Jerzy Okoński, head of research team.

In the background of yellow soil one can see black spots. These are marks of residential and agricultural buildings, fire-sides made of clay or stone and wooden poles. There was discovered, for examlpe: a splendid moat, ditch, 30 buildings from between VIIIth-XI centuries, more or less 50 fire-sides from between IIIrd-IVth centuries. During the excavation works were also found several flints and a part of tomahawk from neolithic times (3500 B.C.).
