Communal festivals

The most original municipal festivities. Commune across Poland are trying to outdo one another at organizing original events to attract tourists. Feasts of various vegetables and fruits dominates, but there is also more original ideas.

On July, 20th, an annual Kliszczak Feast is taking place. The feast refers to the name of ethnic inhabitants. There will be games, contests and shows of local teams.

At the end of July, in Augustow, more than 30 "swimming devices" will take part in the XIII Polish Aquatics Championships in swimming on Anything. – A contest enjoys huge popularity among the spectators. Last year it had been watched by more than 20 thousand people. Augustow is all stopped up, but nobody seems to care - says Witold Polkowski, from Szekla Port in Augustow. The event organized by Radio Bialystok is taking place on the river Netta. This year, participants are to sail in boats: Shrek, pirate tub and Formula 1 bolide. Also players are disguised.

Since 1996 in Krotoszyn (Wielkopolska), world championships in throwing a beret are held. – Someone, who will throw a beret with his hand at the longest distance will be the winner. This year's championships will be held in August, 10th.

In the past few years in Krakow are organized festivals of Soups and Pierogi (boiled dough pockets filled with meat, cheese or fruit), as well as the Feast of Bread. Bialka Tatranska organizes the festival with Cepr, Ceperka and Harnas of a Year election.

In Janowo Lubelskie, for few years now, a Feast of Groats is celebrated. "Buckwheat Groats 2008" is a two-day (9 - 10 August) family festival joined with festival of groats, liqueurs and regional dishes.
