Chapels rescue
Olsztyn county allocate 250 thousand euro for renovation Warmian chapels. Over the years Warmia chapels fall into oblivion, and their condition continues to worsen. In 2003, Olsztyn district began a project "Rescue Warmian chapels."
The oldest shrine dates back to 1601, and it is located in Dobrag near Barczewo, 50 chapels had been built in the eighteenth century. An overwhelming majority, however, was built in the second half of the ninetieth, and in early twentieth century.
Chapels were built as a sign of gratitude, for example, at end of the war or because of survival of the epidemic. They were also a form of expression of requests for the protection against evil. They were fulfilling a function of churches, which were missing in the vicinity. Rural municipalities or private person were usually a founders of the chapels
