Highway for bicycles

2 thousand kilometer long bicycle route along the northern and eastern border of Poland, through five voivodships. A professional project of a road for bicyclists, prepared by the Ministry of Regional Development, has been already accepted by the European Commission. And it gave 42,5 million Euro. Another 7,5 million Euro will have to find the local governments and communes through which the route will be built.

The highway will consist in well-signed forest paths, harden lanes, part of which will be covered with a tarmac. In the cities the route will be stretched through the pavements. The money from the EU will be destined for signing the route and preparing it to such extend so that everyone could drive on it safely.

By the route must be created a whole infrastructure wiyh park places for bicyclists, livery of equipment or shelter for bicyclists. Apart from that, every one hundred kilometer must be a communication centre, which means a city from which one may depart by train or bus.

The building works of the highway will be started in five regions at the same time in the spring 2009. The route will be finished till 2012.
