UNESCO World Heritage list

878 places is already on the UNESCO list: 679 related to the cultural heritage (such as Krakow's Market Square and its surroundings), 174 wonders of nature (including Bialowieza Forest) and 25 items of mixed qualities (such as a sacred for Orthodox Mount Athos in Greece).

Listing them UNESCO declares that all of them are invaluable. That is why they need to be protected. Any interference should be minimized. If, for example, someone wanted to build a motorway through the Bialowieski Forest, it would be crossed out from the list. This was the case concerning Arab Oryx Reserve in Oman. Listed in 1994, it was removed 13 years later, because the authorities reduced the protective area of Oman antelope by 90 percent.
