According to Poles, old-age is the worst period in life – this is the summary of the Institute of Public Affairs’ report. As many as every second person between the age of 45 and 65 who participated in the survey, are afraid of: illness, infirmity and memory loss.
Every fifth is terrified by the fact that he or she will become a burden to their relatives, and every fourth - that they will need assistance in domestic chores.
Only one in ten Poles declare that after reaching the pensionable age they will continue their work, and almost 40 percent admit that "as a last resort" they could work, being retired. And it is only the case when they would have a chance to have part-time job or they could work and get the entire old age pension.
