Polish shipyards are saved? EU does not confirm
Brussels agreed on the program of privatization and restructurization of Polish shipyards, presented by Polish government, informed Polish Radio. If the information turned out to be true, Polish shipyards would not be threatened with bancruptcy, they would not have to refund 5 billion Zloty (1,5 billion Euro). However, the EU does not confirm this news. "It is not true that we have made any decision", said the spokesman of the Union's Commissioner for Competition.
It results from the unofficial information that the European Commission has pre-agreed on the proposal made by Polish Ministry of Treasure, concerning Gdynia and Gdańsk shipyards. However Brussels does not confirm the news. The spokesman of the Union's Commissioner for Competition Neelie Kroes said that it's too early and that experts are analyzing the delivered documents, "we did not made any decision and I would be surprised if they would within the next week", he said.
Brussels requires the Gdynia and Gdansk shipyards to be privatized till the 15th of July. If Poland will not sell the companies, then the European Commission will order the factories to refund the help given by the state, which means a bankruptcy for the shipyards.
