Only half of the infected people in Poland knows that they have this lethal virus. We carry out considerably less tests than in the West. In comparison with other European countries we carried out so little HIV tests that we actually do not know how big is the scale of infection in Poland - said Katarzyna Malinowska-Sempruch from the Open Society Institute, an international foundation, which deals with the prevention of HIV / AIDS.

In Poland, HIV test are carried out only by three person in 1000. The average for the Western European countries is 20 persons in 1000. In Poland, even more than every other person probably do not know wheather he or she is infected by HIV. In the old EU countries every third infected person does not know about it. In Sweden - every fifth.

In Poland, you can do anonymous test for the presence of HIV for free in a diagnostic points hosting by non-governmental organizations, but financed by the Ministry of Health.
Tests for the presence of HIV must be made to the blood donors, and organs donors - voluntarily - in prison.
