Polish current law concerning abortion deviate from the social expectations, 66 percent of Poles believes that the authorities should not deal with abortion, leaving the issue to be settled by people who are involved in this – it results from the CBOS (Social Opinion Research Center - Centrum Badań Opinii Społecznej) opinion poll.

CBOS, together with research centers in other countries, within the confines of WorldPublicOpinion.org program, conducted a study on the legal regulation of abortion. Eighteen countries participated in the survey. In all countries, respondents answered the same questions.

In nine countries, the majority of those who participated in the opinion poll said that the authorities should not deal with abortion. Such answers have been given by people from the countries where abortion is legally permitted: France (95 percent), Great Britain (81 percent), the United States (69 percent), Ukraine (69 percent), Russia (62 percent) and China (67 percent).
This conviction also share the majority of respondents in three countries where the abortion law is very limited: Poland (66 percent), Mexico (70 percent) and South Korea (62 percent).
