Tropical dangerous diseases
Poles bring from their foreign trips not only souvenirs and gifts for family. More and more often they return to the country with a disease, with which Polish doctors have big problems when they need to diagnose it and give special treatment.
The development of low-cost airlines, strong zloty and higher earnings, as well as stable political situation of most tourist regions promotes tourism. Around one million Poles travel to the tropics every year. Many travel agencies belittle exotic risks, so as not to lose their profits.
Tropical diseases are spread thanks to the insects, which suck blood, biting animals, dirty hands and contaminated food, sexual contacts, through blood and by droplets of mucus. The biggest risk is when one want to stay for long-term period in poor countries among people already suffering with chronic illnesses, especially when one is before 30 or after 60 years of age, if one lives in tents or bungalows in the jungle or on marshy land. Healthy people in middle age are much less exposed, lolling about on a hotel couch during a short vacation in a luxury resort.
When it comes to the number of victims, the most dangerous tropical diseases is malaria. It spreads in over 110 countries, 300-500 million people a year suffer from malaria. 1,2-1,5 million die. Also in Poland.
