Extra charges for holidays
Travel agencies insist upon extra payments for airline tickets, even from those customers who bought their trip at the beginning of the year. This is because of rising fuel prices.
Such piece of news about higher-priced departure causes indignation, because people who were planning summer trips in winter, were buying last-minute offer, among other reasons, because they could pay less.
One of the tourists wrote on an online forum - "I am flying to Egypt in July, I need to pay extra charges for the increase in fuel costs - 280 zloty (83 EUR)per person. I booked this trip for 8 people, so I need to pay 2240 zloty (665 EUR) extra!"
Tourists may be furious, however, they remain helpless. As says Kamila Kurowska from the Office for Protection of Competition and Consumers (Urzędu Ochrony Konkurencji i Konsumentów) travel agencies have the right to raise prices for already paid trips. "The fact that the trip was purchased earlier, does not exempt one from additional charges which result from, for example, the increased in fuel prices" - she says. Clients are protected only by the regulation which says that the organizer can not request additional charges 20 days before departure.
