Poles on their way to Icy Mountain
First in the history Polish expedition to the highest peak of Arctic - Gunnbjorns Fjeld (3694 m), popularly known as Icy Mountain, attempt to reach the peak. Leszek Cichy, Marek Kaminski, Thomas Walkiewicz, Miroslaw Polowiec and Ryszard Rusinek has already left the base. - Reaching the top of the mountain may take us 10-12 hours, but we have 30 percent chances. Conditions are not favourable. We are moving forward with the speed of one kilometre per hour. We have to hurry up, because the weather can change any second, we can see it from a distance - transmitted by satellite phone 57-year-old Leszek Cichy. For the first time Gunnbjorns Fjeld was reached on August 16, 1936 by the members of Anglo-Danish expedition Wager and Coultards.
