John Paul’s II house in Wadowice: the project of a thorough rebuilding and the creation of a modern museum, four times greater than the museum we can see today in Wadowice, is already prepared.
The tenement house on 7th Kościelna Street is the most well-known place in Wadowice. In 1920 Karol Wojtyla was born and lived here for 18 years, until he left house to study in Cracow.
24 years ago on the first floor of the building a small museum of John Paul II has been founded. Last year it was visited by more than 400 thousand people. In March 2006 Ryszard Krauze Foundation bought this tenement house from the heirs of the pre-war owners - Jewish Balamuth family - and donate it to the Cracow metropolitan curia.

Yesterday, the spokesman of the Cracow archdiocese, Rev. Dr. Robert Nęcek, announced that after months of work they have a project of rebuilding the house and a draft of a new museum exhibition. We obtained a necessary constructions and maintenance permissions. – We planned to begin construction works in June, but we rescheduled them to start them this fall, in order not to close the papal home during the busy tourist time - emphasizes Rev. Nęcek.
What one can see in newly furnished Pope family home? - We will offer a common pilgrimage with the Holy Father in a modern form - says Jaroslaw Kaput, museum designer. The pivot of the exhibition will be Wojtyla family home on first floor of the building. – We will try to reconstruct the atmosphere, that prevail when Charles's mother was still alive, and after the death of her elder son Edmund - says the museum designer.
