XIII Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean Countries

Among 700 artists from 46 countries, who were taking part in the XIII Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean Countries in Italian Bari, for the first time designers from Poland participated.
Biennial is interdisciplinary in nature. Program includes 1200 works of art, 60 performances and concerts, 40 films, 13 fashion designers’ collections, 25 literary presentation.
Polish artists’ works are singled out on the Biennial with their maturity, as well as with independence of the artistic conditions. This is undoubtedly a merit of the International Cultural Center, which is a Polish coordinator of this event.
In 2007 we organized a competition in which a jury chaired by Izabella Cywinska selected five works, which were to participate in the event: two presentation (Group PLAJ from Gdansk and GRUPAboso from Cracow), a project in the field of applied arts by Boguslaw Parucha, Aneta Bird’s film and the video installation of Paul Dziemiana from Poznan.
Dziemian speaks a universal language, he focuses on deconstruction of contemporary culture myths. GRUPAboso from Cracow with their performance "The Woman of the Dunes" take up the topic of dramatic relationship between female and male element. The PLAJ Group performance "The Record of Dance" is an interesting idea on a merge between performance and painting, the project "Musculos" by Boguslaw Parucha, the graduate of school of design in Milan and German designer in the Ford factory, is, in turn, a genuine attempt to break the conventional way of designing cars.
The greatest impression, however, make "The Tomatoes" by Aneta Bird, the film has also been recommended by Andrzej Wajda. This young director with phenomenal intuition merged sensual way of filming a banal activitie of peeling tomatoes with surprising suspense and legible, intelligent metaphor.
