Judgement in labour camps in Italy case
They were exploited and maltreated. Poles in Italian labour camps were real slaves – that is the just announced reasons for the judgement from before several months, when the court in Bari sentenced 16 Poles involved in labour camps case. For mistreating the compatriots and sending them on hard labour they were sentenced to 4 to 10 years of imprisonment.
“Polish citizens in years 2004-2005 in Apulia fell victim to dishonest work agents.” - the Italian court gave reasons for its judgement for the 16 Poles, who were the “guards” in the labour camps and who searched out and sent employees to Italy.
The trial in labour camps in Italian city Apulia ended in February this year. Few dozen people, including a dozen or so Poles, stood in the dock.
The Italian court stated, that since 2002, for four years, they have recruited several hundred employees from Poland to the labour camps. In July 2006, after the international investigation, the carabineers set 119 Polish slaves free from the Apulia region.
