Long weekend on Polish Roads

53 people died, 747 were injured in 557 road accidents – this is the total effect on Polish roads of second long May weekend. Police officers also arrested 1835drunk drivers.
As Krzysztof Hajdas from press department in Police Headquarters informed, the highest traffic was on Wednesday preceding long weekend. Comparing to last year’s long weekend, this year we had slightly less accidents (previously 583), fewer people injured (previously 794) and slightly less people were killed (previously 54) "- said Hajdas.
He also added that police had arrested less drunk drivers - in 2007 there had been 2348 drunk drivers. "It seems that our appeals began to bring an effect. However, the number of over 1800 drunk drivers is still shocking" - he said.
