Poland is pulling Union to the East
Warsaw officially bagan efforts to bestow five Eastern Europe countries a privileged status in its relations with the European Union.
At Monday's foreign ministers meeting in Brussels, Radoslaw Sikorski is to submit the project of Eastern Partnership. The aim of this meeting is to strengthen the cooperation between the European Union and Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. According to the Polish concept, the inhabitants of these countries could count on visa facilitation, and with time, they would be subjected to visa-less traffic. All countries would be included into the Free Trade Agreement in the sphere of agricultural products and services. They could also count on support, grater than ever before, in the field of energy, ecology, culture and education.
Details are to be reconciled next month on the European Union’s June summit. One of the most difficult issues which needs to be resolved is a matter of project financing. European Union countries are carrying on a hard-fought fight for the means to help its neighbors. So far in this field Eastern Europe countries usually lose with South Europe.
