Mehmet Ali Agca who shot at John Paul II in 1981 petitioned for Polish denisation - informed his defense attorney on Friday. Agca wants to spend the rest of his sentence in Polish prison and, after the release, to settle down in Poland permanently. Head of MSZ Radosław Sikorski called his application "highly insolent".
The attempted assassin of the Polish Pope was sent to Turkey after 19-year long stay in Italian prison. Badly wounded at St. Peter Square on 13th of May 1981 John Paul II met Agca face to face two years later in the prison cell and announced at that time that he forgives him.
