Count Wojciech Dzieduszycki has died
The famous artist died in Wrocław on Friday. He was 95 years old. In 2006 he admitted to the colaboration with UB( The Ministry of Public Security of Poland) and SB (Security Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs). Count Wojciech Dzieduszycki, a distinguished Polish actor, singer, conductor, author of cabaret lyrics, musical and theatrical reviewer and engineer, was born on 5th of June 1912 in Jezupol ( Ukraine). He performed in the opera houses in Lviv, Florence and Milan.
During the Second World War he organized a theater in prison camp. In the Gross-Rosen concentration camp he menaged to avoid the death penalty because he was recognized as the famous tenor.
He settled down in Wrocław. As a director of corn mill he formulated a recipe for Wrocław flour. In 1952 he set up a cabaret "The smoke of a cigarette" and he was harassed for singing Lviv songs. In 1963 he proposed the Orpheus Award at Warsaw Autumn Festival, he cooperated with Chopin Festival in Duszniki Zdrój.
Thanks to his efforts a Fryderyk Chopin Memorial was created in Wrocław. In 1999 the count was granted the honorary citizenship of Wrocław but after disclosure of his collaboration with UB and SB he resigned of his honour.
In 2000 he received honoris causa doctorate awarded by the Musical Academy in Wrocław. He was also a laureate of many cultural awards.
