1th May Celebrations
1th May – the holyday of work. May parades in large numbers were taking place in our country. The biggest parade took place in Warsaw. Under the banner of “In the first place - the human, next - the profit” the parade of leftist organizations took place. Its members were demanding “worthily salaries, proper welfare benefits and retired employee and pensioner’s rights”. Earlier, under the banner of “Less work – higher salary”, walked New Left. New Left demanded the cessation of the attackes on working people and of discrimination of social groups. They also insisted upon the withdrawal of the army from Iraq and Afghanistan. 100 people joined this manifestation.
Other leftish organizations began their parade a little bit later. The representatives from OPZZ, SLD, SDPL, Union of Work (Unia Pracy) and The Right of Polish Left (Racja Polskiej Lewicy) participated in a parade. All things considered – as organizers announced – around two thousand people joined the parade. This parade finished under the Saym. Marchers were bided farewell by, among the others, Wojciech Olejniczak, the chairman of SLD (Alliance of Democratic Left - Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej). “We want for Pole a better life and we are claiming this today” – said Olejniczak, appealing for the unification of leftish activity.
