Polish archeologist’s discovery
Polish-Peruvian team of archeologists found an incredible thing – in one of the last valleys, which was not included into a research, they found more than 100 positions, which included settlements and cemeteries of Moche culture. Around 300 kilometers North from the capital city of Peru, Lima, in the valley of the river Culebras, archeologists from the Centre of Precolumbian Research from University of Warsaw (Ośrodka Badań Prekolumbijskich Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego) together with their Peruvian colleagues from Papal Catholic University in Lima (Papieskiego Uniwersytetu Katolickiego w Limie) are fulfilling their mission. The biggest sensation was caused by the discovery in the village Quillapampa of former residence, in which 1,5 thousand years ago local elite dwelt. The ruins of these residences were marked with the traces of macabre practices. Under the floors archeologist found human remains. Not long ago they found four adults, in the previous seasons they found two few years old children and two infants. From the arrangement of the remains follows that those people did not died in peace. Two of them were lying bent in two on their back, with their feet close to their head. They had died crushed by heavy stones. Next person was probably a young warrior, who had been decapitated by the club. Anthropological research would explain if he had been tortured before the execution. We are not able to say much about this, but iconographic analogy suggests that the victims could have been dazed earlier – described dr Miłosz Giersz, boss of the archeologists team. The discovery in Quillapampa means a huge change in perception of territorial range of Moche culture. We definitely moved the border of Moche country about 100 kilometers South – explained archeologist and reminded that for the long time South Moche border was drawn by Nepena river, which was 90 kilometers far from the tested area. Despite the fact that a lot of researchers called into questions former decisions about the South border of Moche culture, the traces of its stay were limited only to cemeteries. The remains of settlements, administrative or cultural architecture were not yet substantiated. Until now – he added.
