Pole conquered death cape with a pontoon
Arek Pawełek struggle with the element lasted three days. That is how long it took him to sail round the cape Horn. Pole is the first sailor in the world, who conquered this extremely difficult route with open pontoon.
Pawełek had been planning this for few years. “There are not to many blank pages and challenges which are not yet conquered. One of these challenges is a route with an open pontoon around cape from Atlantic to Pacific” – explained Pawełek before his excursion, which he compared to reach the summit of K2, the most difficult peak in Himalayas. “To conquest this route can guarantee that one can be signed in with gold letters to the history of sea conquests. My ambittion is to give this honour to Polish crew and banner” – he added.
After Pawełek’s perform rear admiral Czesław Dyrcz said “Extreme conditions are prevailing around cape Horn, almost continuous storm, 15 metres waves. More than 700 huge sailing ships sank there, 10 thousand people died. This place is one big cementary”, he also added that “What Arek Pawełek did, is huge achievement, but such achievements are courting death”.
