Silesius 2008
On sunday in PolishTheater in Wrocław took place a festivity of handing the prestigious award Silesius. Tadeusz Różewicz was awarded for lifetime achievement. Andrzej Sosnowski received it for the best book of the year.
Wrocław Poetic Award is new and first such an award for poets in the country. It is given in three categories : for lifetime achievemant, volume and debut. The awards, one can get, are in turns: 100 thousand zloty, 50 thousand zloty and 20 thousand zloty. The founder is Wrocław city.
Johannes Scheffler, well-known as Angelus Silesius (SIlesian Angel), symbol of reconciliation and dialog, was born in 1624 in Wrocław. Having changed his faith from Protestantism to Catholicism, he chose life of prayer. One of his most important works was "Cherubinischer Wandersmann"-"English Wanderer". In reference to poet's activity in Wrocław is awarded the Literary Award of Central Europe SIlesius and since this year Wrocław Literary Award Silesius.
