Tulip for the First Lady
Maria Kaczyńska - wife of the President - received from the Dutch grower a tulip. It took Jan Ligthart 18 years to grow it.
The tulip is creamy and its growing process took the Dutch Jan Ligthart 18 years. The flower's name is Maria Kaczyńska. The President's wife received it in the Dutch Embassy yesterday. She is the first celebrity from Poland whose name was officially christened to national flower of the Netherlands. Such idea came to mind of Dutch ambassador in Poland Marnix Krop.
The ceremony of handing over took place in the gardens of Embassy. It coincided with national holiday of the Netherlands celebrated at the day of Queen's Beatrix birthday.
The ambassador of the Netherlands Marnix Krop said: "Mrs Kaczyński is a person full of respect for everyone. She is modest, she never takes place in the first row. She got involved in social problems and environmental protection. She supports her husband. She has her own opinion and interests and what is more important she likes tulips.
The Dutch King's General Association of Flowers Bulbs registered 4.5 thousand of tulip variations. The growing process of new species is popular but very labour-intensive. It can last even several years. Their own tulips have, inter alia:Jurij Gagarin, Vivaldi, Diana Ross, Elvis Presley and wifes of former presidents Hilary Clinton and Bernadette Chirac. Maria Kaczyński is the first person in Poland whose name was given to the flower.
The Maria Kaczyński's tulip will be brought to Poland in limited version soon.
