Ministry of Environment together with ecologists create a list of areas under protection Nature 2000. It will brings to an end the legal conflict with Brussels and will activate million Euro grants for roads.
Yesterday the Ministry made an agreement with non-governmental ecological organizations. Together they will prepare within this year a list of areas under protection Nature2000. If it gets acceptance in Brussels, then the European Commission will withdraw suits against Poland from European Court of Justice in which they accuse us of breaking Union's law.
The Minister of the Environment Maciej Nowicki claims that yesterday's agreement means almost in 100% that it is going to be like that. The end of dispute would give us a chance to unlock financial support for building Polish roads. The European Commission had frozen it for fear of situation in which concrete roads were built on the areas of the Nature2000 list.
Since 90s the EU has been protecting particularly precious lands because of environmental values (for example: sites of rare species of plants or animals). One can builts roads on them only if the investor proves that there is no other way the road could go through and eventual losses will be compensated. Polish government and ecological organizations managed to formulate new version of the list.
