Polish government will privatize almost everything

Until 2011 our country is going to get rid of a whole trades, including few strategical. The government will also sell part of the shares in power industry and such financial giants as PZU and PKO BP. Pharmaceutical, chemical, tourist, shipbuilding, electronic and food industry are coming under the hammer. Prime Minister and Finance Minister announced, that in four years time, the shares in 740 companies would be sold and only 25 companies stay state-owned.
According to the opinion of Finance Minister, in four years time, the income from privatization will amount to around 30 billion zloty. Donald Tusk explained that these money could be used to reduce the national debt, to increase the deficit and to finance reprivatization and education projects.
The opposition is still not convinced. They claimed that when government would sell so many companies, it would cause the reduction in prices. “Since big supply reduce prices the tresury will lose, and indirectly also Poles will lose” - Marek Suski from PiS (Law and Justice - Prawo i Sprawiedliwość) accused .
PiS accused the government of recklessly decision about the sale of power industry sector. According to the opinion of the opposition, selling groups such as Enea, Polish Power Industry Group (Polska Grupa Energetyczna) or Tauron will threaten the safety of our country. PiS is affraid, that the electricity distribution market can land in somebody else’s hands.
