Jerzy Buzek as a Chairman of European Parliament
German daily newspaper "Handelsblatt" informed that Polish Eurodeputy and former Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek is to be the next Chairman of European Parliament after the elections in 2009.
According to the newspapers’ information, two biggest factions in EP: Party of European Socialist (Partia Europejskich Socjalistów (PES)) and Christian Democrats European Party (Europejska Partia Ludowa (EPL)) reach an agreement concerning Buzek candidacy.
“Buzek received wide recognition, regardless of the party membership and for the sake of huge political experience he is fit to the position of the chairman (PE)” – wrote "Handelsblatt”, and also added that 67 years old Polish Eurodeputy, Prime Minister from 1997 till 2001, would be the second in row conservative faction politician on th front of PE. Right now this post fulfill German Christian Democrat Hans-Gert Poettering.
