David Lynch’s studio is getting off the ground
David Lynch, together with Marek Żydowicz and Andrzej Walczak wanted to found a film studio in Poland. Now the project took the shape.
On 9th of April, councilors in Lodz pass the origin of cultural institution “EC1 Lodz, the city of culture” (EC1 Łódź miasto kultury). On 15th of May the decision is going to take legal force.
The city decide on transfering for the project 6,5 million zloty this year and 3,5 million zloty next year. World Art Fundation (Fundacja Sztuki Świata) founded by David Lynch, Marek Żydowicz, the director of Camerimage festival and Andrzej Walczak, the co-owner of Atlas group, will pay 200 thousand zloty, expensive expertises and centre of Lodz project development, prepared by Rob Krier, a world famous architect, planner and sculptor, who designed for example huge town planning projects in Haga, Luxemburg, Potsdam and Amsterdam. The project of the centre of Lodz is impressive. 90 ha space surrounding nowadays railroad station Lodz Fabryczna is to be converted into huge centre of culture. David Lynch’s studio is one of its main parts.
Right next to the studio, the Festival and Congress Centre is arising. It is where in future the international Camerimage cameraman holyday will take place. In third building, exhibition centre and planetarium is going to be located. The organizers are executing very interesting project called the lake of memory – huge library, in which memories and pictures of disappearing worlds are going to be registered. The exhibition centre is going to be open for the audience.
