Museum of Modern Art to be built in Warsaw
In six years in Warsaw just next to Palace of Culture the most modern museum in the country will be opened. On Saturday capital authorities signed an agreement for project with the Swiss architect Christian Krez.
Museum of Modern Art will be the first building which will be built in the open space around The Palace of Culture " It is a signof modernized ambitions of Warsaw. We have a chance for an exceptional museum," said Joanna Mytkowska, manager of Museum of Modern Art.
Signing agreement for the design is a crucial event, closing a dramatic stage of creation of this enterprise. Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw was brought into being by Minister of Culture Waldemar DÄ…browski in 2005. It was a response to a call of modern art community in Poland- historians, critics, exhibition curators, artists- who have long been saying that it is very important to create a place for the newest art. Its aim will be to creation of collections, education and consolidation of the prestige of the modern art.
Negotiations with Krez in the matter of payments for the project lasted since August. Several days ago they came into agreement. Krez will receive 26 million PLN (less than 10% of the cost of all investment). He will be working on this building for 12 months, it will take another year for the project to be operational. Building will be given into use in the spring of 2014.
