Brussels is warning
European Commission is threatening to freeze billions of euros for Poland, if we soon do not change our regulations conncerning environment and new investments, especially in view of road construction.
European Commission has warned Polish government that if the construction law and environment law will not be adjusted immediately to directive requirements, Brussels will freeze funds from EU budget. Furthermore Commission will sue Poland to European Tribunal of Justice. It is very close to the latter. Formal law procedure (finishing in Luxemburg court) against Poland has been begun.
Patience of Brussels is about to run out. The more so that Polish government- previously from PIS (Law and Justice)- ignored Commission’s first ultimatum, according to which, regulations were supposed to be changed by 27th of August 2007. The new, final ultimatum was given by George Kremlis, Head of Coherence Policy and Evaluation on Environment Department in European Commission. He came to Warsaw 28th of February 2008 with special visit to intervene.
