Poles sing in New York

Five Polish artists will act in six performances in the most famous theater in the world.
In the just announced program of Metropolitan Opera for 2008/2009 season the most frequently appearing surname is that of Polish tenor Piotr Beczały. He will appear in three stage roles. In October he will sing Edgar in " Lucia from Lammermoor" by Donizetti ( a German Diana Damrau will play the role of Lucia), next in January and February he will perform as Lenski in "Eugenius Onyegin" by Chaykovsky and the Prince of Mantua in " Rigoletto" by Verdi . In the latter Gilda will be played by Aleksandra Kurzak.
An artist who works with New York theater permanently is Polish baritone Mariusz Kwiecień. In December and January he will sing once again the role of Marcell in " The Boheme" by Puccini and a few weeks later, that of Henry Ashton in the second series of performances of " Lucia from Lammermoor". Then he will be a partner of the most famous duo: Anna Netrebko ( Lucia) and Rolando Villazon ( Edgar) .
After last year's debut in "Aida" another Polish baritone Andrzej Dobber received an offer. This time in October he will play Germont's father in "Traviatta" by Verdi. The last time so many Polish artists on the stage of New York theater could be fseen in 80's when
such names were bound with Metropolitan Opera as: Teresa Kubiak, Teresa Żylis-Gara, Wiesław Ochman and the conductor Kazimierz Kord.
