An American homosexual couple are hoping to meet president Kaczyński

An American gay couple whose brief video clip was used by Polish President Lech Kaczynski to illustrate in his presidential address, the threat of same-sex marriage, filed an official protest in Polish consulate. The couple were demanding a meeting with the Polish leader.

Brendan Fay and Tom Moulton are a gay New York couple, whose wedding pictures were used during the presidential address opposing acceptation of the European Union reform treaty. Indignant at the unfair advantage of the record without their permission, Mr. Fay submited a letter demanding apology and explanation to Polish consulate in New York. He expressed his discontent with the fact that, as he claims, the photos from the happiest day in his life were used in a campaign against homosexual marriages. In the same letter he also demanded a meeting with the consul, in order to “discuss the issue of sexual minority rights in Poland”.

As today’s The Times reported, Mr. Fay wanted to meet the Polish leader, who has a “long record of being anti-homosexual”. Homosexual couple shown up in a film illustrating presidential address in the context of his warnings about the possibility of homosexual marriages. According to president Kaczyński opinion “without clear definition of marriage (in a Basic Law Card) as a relationship between man and woman, it might harm the commonly accepted moral order and force our country to introduce institutions contradictory to the moral beliefs of the majority of the nation”.

This case had a far reaching repercussions in Western media, one of the New York Times journalist assessed the presidential address as an appeal to “rural, catholic and conservative electorate from Eastern Poland”. On 30th of March Brandon Fay with his husband Tom Moulton came to Poland. Mr. Fay stressed, that he met a lot of sympathy and understanding in Poland, both of them appeared at a LiD – The Left and the Democracy (Lewica i Demokraci) conference and Mr. Fay announced that he wrote a letter, which is going to be available to the media. "In this letter we ask for a meeting. Maybe president Kaczyński will be willing like to talk with" us – said Mr. Fay.
