Sejm accepted the Treaty of Lisbon
The Sejm (the lower house of the Polish parliament) accepted the announcement of results with standing ovation. In favour of ratification were 384 deputies from PO, PSL, LiD and majority from PiS. Against were 56 deputies of that party and 12 abstained from voting. Short after the announcement the Marshal of the Sejm Bronisław Komorowski put his signature under the Act. Today the Senat ( the upper house of the Polish parliament) is going to deal with it.
It is a privilege for me that in front of the upper house I can recommend a positive voting in favour of the Treaty, said the Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The President Lech Kaczyński said " Your voting is for Poland and the Polish a holiday of national unity, which we need."
Poland needs national unity in case of European Union and in terms of protection of vested interest, said the President.
He added that the unity strengthens the President and his government "responsible for forming our foreign policy".
According to Lech Kaczyński The Treaty of Lisbon is a "solid foundation on which we can build good and safe future of Poland". The President underlined that along with geographical location of our country, "by modern history and by our neighbours" we cannot imagine our future without the European Union.
