The accident took place on Saturday, at 5.20 a.m. on the motorway near Linz, close to Wels. One day earlier at about 7 p.m. 53 tourists had left Opole to ski in Marillevy in Val di Sole in Italy.
The bus fell off the road on a bend, hit a barrier rail and fell down on its side from a three-meter high embankment. 41 years old employee of Opole Power Plant, who had founded the trip for the employees died on the spot. Ten injured are in a hospital in Wels and Linz. Most of them suffered head injuries and cuts. "Five people are in a bad condition," said Marcin Jakubowski, the secretary of the consular department in Polish Embassy in Wien.
Austrian police claims that the cause of the accident is unknown. There is no reservation to the technical condition of the bus. Also tachographs, registering the time of the driver’s work, are fine.
