Zbigniew Herbert’s Year

With the occasion of the tenth anniversary of Zbigniew Herbert's death, which happens this year, The Seym of the Republic of Poland took up a resolution to announce 2008 the Year of Zbigniew Herbert.

The motto of the year is the quotation “Inside me is a flame which thinks” derived from Herbert’s poem “Register”(„Napis”).

The Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the initiator of the resolution, has entrusted National Library with the coordination of the most important ventures connected with the event. The legacy of the author “Mr. Cogito” rests in the collection of National Library.

Within the confines of the programme the best projects, commemorating the life and creative activity of the poet, disseminating and popularizing his output, are going to be financed. The programme will be supporting different kinds of publication, scientific and popular conferences, exhibitions, workshops, literary meetings, excursions, medial and multimedial programmes, contests, stagings of his dramatic works and based on poetical creation.
