Tusk does not convince Merkel
In spite of Polish objections, Germany are building the museum of expulsion. German government decided that the museum is going to be built in Berlin. The museum is a “visible sign against refuge and expulsion”.
The initiative which is strongly supported by the chief of The Expelled Union, Erica Steinbach, was pointedly criticised by Poland. Donald Tusk wanted to convince Germans to change their plans, he even suggested that we could build museum of II World War in Gdańsk instead. People from Germany stated that if someone wants to commemorate the victims of the conflict in their own way, let them have their way. But they are not going to give up their initiative, so Berlin did not change its mind.
Erica Steinbach, the chief of Expelled Union, is most satisfied with this decision. According to her opinion “this museum is going to fill the white spot in the landscape of Berlin”. Steinbach, by the way, emphasizes her own role in efforts connected with the “visible sign”. She also praises the fundation Center Against Expulsion founded by the Expeled Union. “Without this fundation, we would not be able to make today's decision” – she stressed.
