Polish police officers injured in Kosowo
27 Polish police officers have been injured in Kosowo. The building of the court, which has been occupied since Friday by Serbian emploees, was the place of a violent clashes. More than half thousand Police officers and soldiers from international forces launched an assault against demonstrators. Serbian emploees, who were ccupying the building offered no resistance at all but the news about retaking the building spread out very fast through Serbian part of the Mitrovica, the city residing by more than 20 000 Serbs, who are separated from Albanian by maintained by ONZ bridge. Straightway few thousand people, armed in sticks and stones approached to the occupied building of the court.
For Polish police officers (it was almost half of the 115 person contingent), who were taking part in the assault against demonstrators, the clash turned out to be very tragically. As many as twenty seven had been injured, sixteen had been taken to the hospital. Most of them wounded by the fragments of grenade. Slightly wounded in arm by shrapnel were the commanding officer of the contingent.
As commanding officer spokesperson Mariusz Sokołowski informed on Monday, officers have, among the others, injuries of legs and hands caused by shrapnels and splinters. Two of the officers had to be operated but life of the injured is not in danger.
To Kosowo Polish delegation, including deputy prime minister MSWiA Grzegorz Schetyna, and under-secretary of state SWiA Adam Rapacki went to Kosowo.
