Qualification Olympic Games in Beijing 2008

    On Monday, in Tokyo lots were drawn for intercontinental qualification  to the Olympic Games for volleyball players. Polish representation will play the host of the competition – Portugal, as well as Indonesia and Puerto Rico in Portugal in the city of the Espinho (30.05 – 01.06).

    Puerto Rico Volleyball Team ranks 8th position in the FIVB World Rankings. The strongest players are Hector Soto, Victor and Jose Riverach. They are known from playing in the KS Jastrzębski Węgiel. The team is tough opposition for Poland . They are in the World Cup.In November they defeated the USA and performed well against Brazil and Russia.

    Portugal Volleyball Representation ranks 39. place in the FIVB World Rankings but its low position can be misguiding. This year the team from Iberian Peninsula ranks 2. place in the European League after defeating Spain in fierce competition. The best players on the team are Hugo Gasparze and Joao Jose. The Portuguese play is very quick game supported by a fantastic defense.

    Indonesia is the most unknown among the Poland’s rivals. We don’t know a lot about the way they play, except that similarities to the Poles are the fact they wear identical colours. The coach of Polish Volleyball Representation Raúl Lozano is sure that the Poles will qualify to the Olympic Games in 2008.
