South Betters North in All-Star Game
On March 2nd Wrocław's Centennial Hall hosted the Dominet Bank Basketball League All-Star game. The match itself was accompanied by the three-point shoot-out, slam-dunk competition and performances from Kasia Nowa (a day after the release of her debut album), Stachursky and Lady Pank (the pop-rock veterans).
Andrzej Pluta from WTK Anwil Włocławek won the three-point shoot-out, which took place right before the game. Pluta scored astounding 25 points on the way to the final and there he managed to sink for 21 points missing on 6 balls (3 moneyballs).
The game itself started off slow, as they usually do. But in the second quarter already there were no easy points to be scored. Still the viewers were happy to see some pretty plays from Logan, Hicks, Ansley and the local home team fans favorites Atkins, Homan and young Kamil Chanas.
In the half time the slam-dunk competition took place. David Logan in the first round made an impressive backreach one hander which was underscored by the judges, but he went through to the final round to meet there Aivaras Kiausas (from Śląsk Wrocław). However, Logan wasted all three attemts he had in the final not managing to dunk the ball. Kiausas could have done just any old dunk to win but he decided to give the spectators what they came for. He took off one shoe after he threw a high pass to himself to the box, and dunk the shoe with his left hand first while catchin the ball mid-air with his right, which he put through the middle of the iron a split of a second later. And it is worth noting that Kiausas took part in the competition to fill in for the injured teammate Torrell Martin.
The game ended 114 to 112 for the South. In the last seconds Hicks had an opportunity to level the score but he missed the two from the line and the attempted rebound did not work out either. Andrzej Pluta was named the game MVP, finishing the All-Star weekend with three awards (he had also won the players and journalists' games the day before).
