Friday Night Gales Cause Damage

    The stormwinds that rolled through Poland on the night of Feb. 22nd were felt strongly in all of the country. In many areas the winds were accompanied by bursts of heavy rain, sleet or hail. Especially North and East of Poland were visibly touched by the gales. The winds left 45,000 households in the North-Eastern voyvodships without electricty.

    Another several tens of thousands people were deprived of electricty in the West Pomerania area. Hundreds of trees were uprooted in Eastern and Central Poland. The repairs and cleaning may take up to 5 days, the weather permitting.

    Yet weather experts warn that spring may welcome many instances of such - and stronger yet - windstroms and people should pay carefull attention to forecast, come spring, as well as watch out for storm warnings. With the sun activity rising, violent weather phenomena are going to strike Poland with a growing frequency in the current few years.
