A huge Russian fuel base in the Białowieska Forest. The administrative officer of commune Narewka and the councillors have secretly came to understanding with Łukoil. This base which is dangerous for the environment is going to be created in the zone of the protected forest landscape – writes Dziennik.

The Wood Settlement is literally bounded by the Białowieska Forest. How the Dziennik established, that is the place where on 25 ha the Russian company Łukoil will place a gigantic fuel base with at least 20 containers for petrol, gas and oil. The biggest ones will be able to contain 5 thousand metres cube of fuels which will be taken by trucks and transported to stations in the whole Poland. The administrative officer of commune Narewka Mikołaj Pawlicz confirms: “We've been talking with Łukoil about this investment since three years.”

According to ecologists the fuel base in this place is a bomb with a delayed ignition for the forest ecosystem. Why? Because on the area purchased by Łukoil irrigation channels can be found. In case of a breakdown and leakage, the whole forest can be contaminated.

Launch of this investment is a catastrophe for the environment: it means an intensive traffic of trucks and pollution of the region. The trucks will go on the roads in the forests which are protected by the program Nature 2000. Such forests are 70 percent of the surface of the Narewka commune.
