HIV tests for pregnant women
Polish Gynaecological Society appealed to the gynaecologists to ask every pregnant woman to do tests for the presence of HIV. The test and, if necessary, proper treatment could protect their children from the risk of infection. In Poland live almost 500 children with HIV. If their mother had done the tests during pregnancy, they would have taken special medicines and they would not be breastfeeded, in result they would be healthy now. The risk of infection would decrease then from 30% to 2%. Being aware of the test results, the doctors could also make a decision about caesarean section what would reduce the risk of infection for 25%. Source: Dziennik
